Emergency Roof Leaks: What to Do While Waiting for a Roofer

    Don't Panic, Act Fast

Discovering a major roof leak during a heavy Dublin downpour is stressful. While you wait for Haven Roof Specialists to arrive, there are steps you can take to minimize interior damage.

    1. Contain the Water

Place buckets, pots, or large bins under the active leak. If water is splashing out of the bucket, pin a piece of string to the ceiling where the water is dripping and let it hang into the bucket—the water will run down the string silently.

    2. Protect Your Belongings

Move furniture, electronics, and rugs away from the leak zone. Cover anything too heavy to move with plastic sheeting or tarps.

    3. Relieve Ceiling Pressure

If you see a bulge forming in your ceiling drywall, water is pooling above it. Poking a small hole in the center of the bulge with a screwdriver will let the water drain into your bucket, preventing the entire ceiling from collapsing.

    4. Check the Attic (Safely)

If it is safe to do so, inspect the attic to locate the source of the leak. However, NEVER walk on wet joists or attempt to go onto the roof yourself during a storm.
