What is a Dry Verge System and Do You Need One?

    Moving Away from Mortar

For decades, the standard method for securing the edge of a roof (the verge) in Ireland was using wet mortar. While effective initially, mortar inevitably cracks and crumbles due to weather exposure and the natural movement of the house.

    Enter the Dry Verge System

A dry verge system replaces mortar with interlocking uPVC caps that fit over the edge of the roof tiles. These caps are mechanically fixed into place, providing a secure, weatherproof seal without the need for wet trades.

    Benefits of Dry Verge

    • Weatherproof: Unaffected by the freeze-thaw cycle that destroys traditional mortar.
    • Secure: Mechanically fixes the edge tiles, preventing them from blowing off in high winds.
    • Maintenance-Free: uPVC caps do not require repointing or painting.
    • Aesthetic Appeal: Provides a clean, continuous, and modern finish to the roofline.

    Is it Time to Upgrade?

If you are constantly paying to have the mortar on your roof edges repointed, or if you're installing a new roof, upgrading to a dry verge system is a highly recommended, cost-effective long-term solution.
